At Rio Gran, we believe that a well-trained dog is a better companion and overall citizen.

Our training academy offers a wide range of classes from Puppy Classes to Advanced Obedience, Rally, Tricks, Therapy Dog, and nose work training. Our training staff has more than 60 years of combined experience in dog and owner training.

This course lets puppies of similar ages to interact safely while teaching manners in dealing with dog to dog and dog to human interactions. Introductions to obedience training such as stays, heeling and leave it.
For puppies from 12 weeks to 6 months only please.

In this class we will work on socializing your puppy to different people and situations . As well as working on common puppy behavior problems. Also in this class we will start some very basic obedience commands.

Teach your dog sit, down, heel, stay and the recall. We will also cover sitting politely for petting, meeting a stranger, walking thru a crowd and more. Now included in your seven week class is a special CGC test night. The test night to be announced 1st night of class . Anyone passing the test, mixed breed or purebred, can mail into the AKC for a certificate.   This class is a great first step for anyone interested in pet therapy!

In this class you will learn the basic commands, sit, down, heel, stay and come when you are called. We will also learn the exercises that are needed to pass the canine good citizen test.

This 5-week class will continue on the training you have learned in beginner obedience. Be prepared for a fun fast paced class.

This course builds on the basic obedience class and adds new material, including figure eights, stand for exams, timed stays, etc. We will break up the obedience with fun activities in our large fenced outdoor play area (weather permitting) or in the training room during inclement weather. This is a great class for brushing-up the training for you and your dog and/or to bond again with your 4-legged companion.

This course introduces agility equipment safely to the dogs and handlers, such as the dog-walk, jumps and tunnels. Mini courses are used to train dogs and handlers to go from one item to the next. Dogs must be over a year old for joint structure safety.

This classes is for dogs that have already taken intro to agility. We teach you handling skills to help your dog run thru courses successfully.

Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler team complete a course that will be a set up by a judge. The course is set up to use your basic obedience skills. This is a perfect place to start if you are interested in getting a title on your dog, or just brush up on your obedience skills.

Does your dog love to sniff? Have you ever wanted an outlet for your dog’s sniffing? This class will give you the initial steps to teaching your dog to learn to search for targeted scents and introduce you to the idea of competing with your canine partner.

In this class the dog and the handler are taught how to search for a scent using treats. Handlers will be taught to watch their dog for the dogs natural cues that the dog has located the scent being targeted. The handler will learn how to properly allow the dog to be independent in their search and not to look for indications from the handler. Initially, searches will be limited to a certain amount of space/rooms, using boxes on the ground as well as other containers. Gradually, environmental objects will be added, increasing the amount of space used for the search, change locations (inside) for searches, adding elevation, all the while ensuring that the dog’s desire to search is encouraged and developed. By the end of the course, dogs will be working and targeting the scent during searches. Please bring in a sturdy crate (in non-winter month’s dogs may be crated out of your car), LOTS and LOTS of good smelling treats your dog likes, and a 6 foot leash. Note: due to the nature of the training and the desire for the owner to not give cues, prong/pinch collars and e-collars should not be used during the class.

Let your dog have lots of fun running, jumping, and going through different tunnels. This fun class is great to burn off extra energy and build confidence.

The purpose of this class is to prepare your dog to go out and take the test from a National Therapy Animal Organization. In this class, your dog will be desensitized to medical devices, such as crutches, oxygen tanks, wheelchairs as well as loud distractions, strangers approaching your dog and more.
Your dog must have passed the CGC test within the previous year and have a sound temperament.

This class gets the dogs out and learning new items with different activities. Each week you will work some obedience with some fun work too; such as nose work, tricks, agility and rally. A great way to get your dog out and focused on good behaviors
